默多克此次提出与邓文迪离婚，恰好赶在新闻集团准备拆分并重组业务之时。按照计划，新闻集团将在6月28日“一分为二”，新闻出版业务和娱乐业务将分离。据称，默多克和上一任妻子离婚时，签署了支付17亿美元的离婚协议。参照这一数字，邓文迪与默多克离婚可获10亿美元以上补偿。
