据美媒《大西洋月刊》,日本南部海岸离岛青岛原有的渔村人口凋零,目前猫的数量为人类的6倍,成为名符其实的猫岛。青岛(Aoshima)长1.6公里,一开始是因为渔夫要对付渔船的鼠患,于是引进猫。结果猫在青岛上繁衍,数量不断增加。青岛有超过120只猫,仅剩少许居民,多半是退休老人,未在二次大战后加入离乡潮外移到城市工作。青岛也是日本十几个“猫岛”之一。
