Turning trash into treasure

Editor's note: Gu Guanglei, 32, is a teacher from Changchun, capital of Jilin Province who uses his spare time to collect waste gear, metal plates, winebottles and various other trash, and turns them into art works.

He says his works are inspired by the machines of the industrial age, which represent the changes and progress of human society. In the past 10 years, Gu has already created more than 200 art works. The items he collects may be waste in other people's eyes, but, to him, they are incomparable treasures featuring original design and unique characteristics.
