Disappearing bathhouses in Shanghai
Editor's note: Old bathhouses, where people can relax in hot public water pools, are on the brink of extinction in Shanghai because of lack of business. Part of a unique lifestyle in Shanghai, the old bathhouses of which no more than 30 remain, are replete with the memories of wood chips used for ID purposes, steaming towels as well as old teacups and Coca Cola in small bottles. With visitors now mostly restricted to those over 60 years of age, public baths seem to have little appeal for the younger generation.
