The latest academic achievements in artificial intelligence will be at the center of the 2017 National Postdoctoral Academic Forum to be held in Hengqin New Area, Zhuhai on Dec. 19, with over 300 international postdoctoral researchers and postdoctoral management experts in participation.

With the theme of “The Future is Now: Embracing the 4th Wave of AI,” this year’s forum aims to promote research and development in artificial intelligence with the participation of postdoctoral researchers.

Several sub-forums will be dedicated to technological development, innovation in industrialization and talent cultivation in the field, offering a site for exchange between the industry and academia. 

This year’s theme of artificial intelligence is derived from the theme of big data last year, according to Deng Lianbing, director of Hengqin New Area’s Postdoctoral Administration Office and president of Zhuhai Da Hengqin Technology Development Co., Ltd. 

Deng explained that there is a close association between the developments in the two sectors and that Hengqin New Area has a unique advantage to host the forum since big data has been made the research priority of its postdoctoral workstation.

He is upbeat about artificial intelligence’s development in the country, saying that China will soon enter the top echelon of the industry after rapid development in recent years.

The forum is organized by Hengqin New Area’s postdoctoral administration and Zhuhai Da Hengqin Technology Development Co., Ltd,  with the support of the Hengqin New Area administration National Postdoctoral Administration Committee Office, China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, and Guangdong Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security. 

Another two events will run parallel to the forum. The Colloquium on Supporting Innovative Postdoctoral Talents will explore means to foster innovation among postdoctoral researchers, while the 45th Cohort of China Postdoctoral Science and Technology Service Corps will attend an event aiming at facilitating matchmaking between postdoctoral researchers and enterprises or research institutions. 

Officials from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, National Postdoctoral Administration Committee Office, China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, Guangdong provincial government, Zhuhai municipal government and Hengqin New Area administration will be in attendance, along with representatives of international organizations and education institutions.
