The signing ceremony of the Macao Young Scholars Program was held in Hengqin New Area of Zhuhai, Guangdong province on Nov. 16, as part of a series of postdoctoral activities to be held in the new area from mid-November to mid-December.

At the ceremony, an agreement for cooperation was signed by Xu Ao'ao, president of Macao Association for Promotion of Science and Technology, and Yu Jiadong, director of the department of professionals and technical personnel management, Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.

The two parties will work together to make sure the first group of outstanding mainland talents with doctoral degrees will be able to begin postdoctoral research work in Macao in 2019.

The Macao Young Scholars Program will encompass research fields of traditional Chinese medicine, microelectronics, lunar and planetary research, and smart city and the internet of things, which are also key development areas of Hengqin New Area.

As of the beginning of Nov. 2018, a total of 1,327 Macao-based enterprises are registered in Hengqin New Area. It is expected that the signing of the Macao Young Scholars Program and the serial postdoctoral activities to be held in the new area will attract more high-caliber talents with doctoral degrees.
