An exhibition of Chinese Jingdezhen ceramics opened Friday at
City University of Hong Kong (CityU), showcasing 50 pieces of
exquisite art produced by renowned teachers from the Jingdezhen
Ceramic Institute.
Jingdezhen, east China's Jiangxi Province, has a history of over
1,000 years and is famous for making ceramics for the former
Chinese emperors and royal family.
The works on display, dating back to 1981, exhibit a high level
of creativity and are executed in a variety of styles. They reveal
a vibrant mix of modern art and traditional Chinese culture via an
integration of Chinese calligraphy and painting, demonstrating the
innovative spirit of Jingdezhen ceramic arts.
Among the works, "The Rhythm of Spring" by Professor Qin Xilin,
President of Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute, uses a Chinese folk
style of painting, which reveals an intense and unique sense of
regional culture.
"This exhibition exemplifies CityU's commitment to promoting art
and culture among students and the general public in Hong Kong,"
said Professor Cheng Pei-kai, Director of the Chinese Civilization
Center at CityU.
The exhibition hosted by CityU will last to May 1.
Meanwhile, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and University
of Hong Kong will organize a workshop and a seminar respectively on
ceramic art at a later date.
