To celebrate Mother's Day, a unique exhibition called "Chinese
Mother," launched by the Happy Project Committee, will raise its
curtain this week in Yan Huang Art Museum in Beijing.
Aiming to call people's attention to helping poor mothers in
China, the exhibition has the support of Wang Guangmei, the famous
social activist, Ma Yanli, the supermodel as the image ambassador,
and Han Meilin, the esteemed artist who provides 16 sculptures and
10 of his latest paintings themed on mother and son. Pictures
depicting the poor mothers in western China by famous photographer
Yu Quanxing will also be exhibited to help the visitors understand
the impoverished life there.
After the exhibition, a series of charity dinners and charity
parties will be held to further raise awareness.
Launched in 1995, the Happy Project is a social welfare activity
initiated and carried out by the China Population Welfare
Foundation and the China Family Planning Association, to assist
disadvantaged mothers. Through raising funds at home and abroad,
the program provides credit, training classes and healthcare.
The exhibition will run until May 14.
