The 2006 Shanghai International Car Racing Culture Festival will
take place from September 1 to October 7 at venues citywide.
The festival will involve a Kart championship, online gaming
competition, exhibitions, and facts contest.
The highlight is the month-long Kart Championship from September
9 to October 2 at the Shanghai International Circuit, Jiading
District. Information about entering the race and activities will
be released later.
"We want to find talented young racers for the championship,"
said Yu Zhifei, spokesperson of the festival committee. "China
still needs more professional racers."
Knowledge contests, held in early September, will be based on
auto racing facts. Those interested in auto racing can join. A
citywide online racing game, from September 1 to September 29,
targets the young generation.
Participants can experience auto racing on the Internet,
competing against other online racers.
The festival also includes an exhibition covering world auto
racing history and racing in China. It will take place at Changfeng
Park, Putuo District, from September 28 to October 7. Auto racing
is still a novelty to many locals. In June 2004, the city held its
first Formula One race.
