The Eighth Asia Arts Festival opened on Thursday in Beijing,
celebrating the fifteenth anniversary since dialogue was
established between China and the Association of South East Asian
Nations (ASEAN).
This year, 2006, also marks the Year of Friendly Cooperation
between China and ASEAN.The theme of the 8th Asia Arts Festival is
"learn from each other, develop in harmony. "
An art festival called "Asian Wonders" opened as part of the
festival on Thursday afternoon, showcasing the wonderful culture
and art created by people from South East Asia.
Mr Ong Keng Young, Secretary-General of ASEAN, explained why the
exhibition is significant. Ms Gamboa from the Philippines also
attended the exhibition.
The festival's grand opening performance, Cheering for
ASEAN, was held at the Beijing Exhibition Theatre on Thursday
evening.
Senior Chinese Leader Li Changchun attended the event.
The performance presented the cultures and arts from the ten
ASEAN countries, to further develop the cultural exchange and
cooperation between China and ASEAN.
Top notch artistic troops from all ten ASEAN countries took
part.
Miss Kimanh from the Theatre of Vietnam Music, Dance and Song
told us about her performance, Life Way.
The festival will run from August 31 to September 6, providing
us all with a window into the culture and arts of the ASEAN
nations, including Indonesia, the Philipines, Singapore and
Thailand.
