The following are excerpts from the speeches of the guests at the seminar.

In the context of globalization, writers and poets as contributors to spiritual civilization bear the important responsibility of depicting and bringing a new prospect for human civilization. The problems that mankind is currently facing seem to far exceed those in the past, so it is necessary to establish a more harmonious relationship in human civilization. The process of modernization has injected new vitality into ancient civilizations such as Chinese civilization. The unity-in-diversity Chinese culture is precisely the product of the integration of different cultures, which provides new thinking for the mutual learning among human civilizations.

——Jidi Majia,

Director of the Poetry Committee of the China Writers Association;

Honorary Chairman of the China Ethnic Literature Societ

The current problems in China-Western relations cannot be simply attributed to cultural differences. Over the past 40 years of reform and opening-up, China has learned from the West, and cultural differences should have been reduced, but China-Western relations have not improved as a result. The cultural differences between China and the West are not absolute, but are affected by multiple factors such as natural conditions and historical development.

Chinese culture regards harmony as of great value and advocates inclusiveness and harmony, which are of great significance for the dialogue among civilizations in the current world. We should transcend differences in race, culture, etc., face global problems with rational thinking, and jointly promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

——Han Zhen,

Director of the Academic Committee of Beijing Normal University

The term civilization-state is becoming increasingly familiar, even in the West. It encompasses thousands of years of history, existing in forms as countries like China as well as ancient civilizations in three other countries, India, Turkey, and Russia. The term helps us understand the historical connections among different civilizations. Historical events such as colonialism, colonial expansion and anti-colonialism have had a profound impact on the development of civilization. When understanding the concept of civilization, we need to consider different dimensions, including religion, social norms, etc. Western civilization often has a sense of superiority, while Eastern civilization pays more attention to diversity and inclusiveness. At present, the understanding of each other's civilization between the East and the West is still insufficient, and it is necessary to strengthen exchanges and understanding and jointly promote the progress of human civilization.

——Martin Jacques,

Former Senior Fellow, POLIS, Cambridge University;

Senior Fellow, Institute of Modern International Relations, Tsinghua University

Fudan University's support for the development of China's mainland and the "Global South" is a great example of common development and the construction of a new form of human civilization. Fudan University's assistance projects cover most of China's central and western regions. Supporting the development of these regions reflects the logic of Chinese-style modernization. In particular, research cooperation in key fields promotes the sustainable development of the "Global South," including the sharing of AI solutions, digital cooperation, green capacity building, and medical assistance. These measures have effectively promoted the fairness of educational opportunities and improved the basic education and medical and health levels in the assisted areas.

——Chen Zhimin,

Vice President of Fudan University

An important aspect of understanding the Chinese nation is to understand China's legal culture, an excellent component of Chinese traditional culture, namely, to understand "the rule-of-law in China." At present, the core of China's ethnic work is to construct the community for the Chinese nation and effectively optimize the value of the rule-of-law in the construction process. We should place more emphasis on the values of equality, freedom and unity.

Dean and Professor of the Law School at Huazhong University of Science and Technology
