China plans to spread the use of clean coal and improve the
quality of coal in an effort to reduce pollution in the 10th
Five-Year Plan period (2001-2005).
According to a
recent plan mapped out by the State Administration of Coal
Industry, more than 95 percent of the coal will be processed
before entering the market, a number of large coal distribution
centers will be built and efforts will be made to upgrade
a number of power stations fueled with low-quality coal.
In addition, the
country will build a batch of large and high-standard coal
production, processing and marketing bases.
Analysts note that
coal will remain the major source of energy in the early 21st
century, and people will pay more attention to the development
of efficient and clean energy with the improvement of living
conditions.
