Wu Yi, China's State Councilor, called on economic officials
at a national conference on economic and trade to achieve greater
progress on next year's internal and foreign trade.
Guided by the principle
of the 15th National Congress of the Communist Party of China,
the Fifth Plenary Sessions of the 15th CPC Central Committee,
and the Central Economic Working Conference convened by the
CPC Central Committee, China's economic work for the coming
year are expected to be well done, Wu said.
She noted that
the work is very important in the country's 10th Five Year
Plan Period (2001-2005).
She urged economic
administrative departments nationwide to make full use of
China's fast economic development and the country's entry
into the WTO so as to create a new phase in internal and foreign
trade sector.
The departments
should work hard to prepare for the entrance into the WTO
and learn principles and information about WTO, she said.
New working methods,
deep research, advanced business skills and better administrative
measures should be used in next year's economic work, she
added.
Wu noted that economic
department should also exert more efforts to carry out reforms
focusing on modernized circulation of materials, which will
play an important role in the persistent development of commodity
circulation.
In addition, related
departments should prepare proper commodities and business
service in accordance with the need of domestic and overseas
markets.
Domestic enterprises
are encouraged to invest and run projects in foreign countries
for exporting products, equipment and technology, she said.
