After the fall of Tianjin, more than 10.000 foreign officers and soldiers looted for an entire day. Financial institutions of the government, pawnshops and business firms were the first to suffer. From the Changlu Office of Salt taxation, Japanese troops plundered 2 million taels of silver. The picture shows heaps of unearthed silver ingots.
