Secretary General of the International Shooting Sport Federation
(ISSF) Horst G. Schreiber, arrived in Beijing to assess the city's
capabilities to host the 2008 Olympic Games Tuesday.
His trip was the 25th inspection tour representatives of the International
Sports Federation (ISF) made to Beijing over the past two months.
According to IOC requirements. The candidate cities to host the
2008 Olympic Games have to present letters of confirmation from
the 28 ISFs together with their Master Plans to the IOC for election
of the host city.
So far, officials from 25 of the 28 ISFs have already visited Beijing.
Twenty representatives of the ISF have sent their letters of confirmation
to Beijing, saying that the city has satisfied the requirements
for hosting the Olympic competitions within their jurisdictions.
Since the International Football Federation (IFF) and the International
Weightlifting Federation (IWF) will not send representatives to
inspect Beijing, the only federation that is yet to make an on-site
inspection in Beijing is the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF).
Schreiber, a registered lawyer from Germany, is a senior official
of the ISSF. He has been the secretary general of the ISSF since
1980. Since the headquarters of the ISSF is located in Germany,
he is responsible for the daily operations of the organization.
During his trip to Beijing, he will inspect the shooting range and
other facilities and infrastructures in Beijing. This is the second
time he has visited the city.
