Holyfield to Fight in China (02/13/2001)

Organizers for Evander Holyfield's inaugural fight in China reached an agreement on Saturday, allowing what will be a widely watched professional fight to be staged in the world's most populous nation.

The Great Wall International Sports Media Co Ltd, the company that arranged the Guangzhou fight for Laila Ali, daughter of the legendary Muhammed Ali, and Kristina King last April, signed a contract with Holyfield's promoter Don King in the US to bring the famous boxer to China in June.

Holyfield's opponent and the location for the historic match are yet to be decided upon. If it comes off, it will be the first men's professional boxing match in China in the 50 years since the founding of the People's Republic.
