Tian'anmen Will Be Beach Volleyball Venue Should Beijing Win Bid, Mayor

Beach volleyball and triathlon will compete on the historic Tian'anmen Square should Beijing play host to the 2008 Olympics Games, Beijing Mayor Liu Qi confirmed November 25.

In a meeting with Sydney Olympic Village mayor Graham Richardson, Liu said the Tian'anmen Square will be the beach volleyball venue if Beijing wins the International Olympic Committee's voting for the 2008 host city in July, 2001.

Liu said triathlon will start from Yuyuantan Park, western Beijing, cross the Tian'anmen Square and finish outside the Forbidden City.
