Sichuan Uses Foreign Funds to Improve Urban Environment
Sichuan Province in southwest China has successfully solved the capital shortage in building urban infrastructure facilities and improving the environment with the help of nearly US$200 million of foreign loans and investments over the past two years.

These projects include three sewage treatment plants, built with loans from the governments of the Netherlands, Denmark and Italy, respectively, according to the provincial environmental protection bureau.

A contract has been signed for the construction of urban environment protection projects in the province, supported by US$100 million of World Bank loans.

The European Union (EU) is conducting investigations in the Xindu and Yan'an areas in the province, seeking cooperation opportunities. Sources said the EU is expected to provide more than US$100 million in loans to support urban environmental protection and industrial pollution control in Sichuan.
