The government of Wuhan, the most important city on the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, recently announced that 13 foreigners from overseas have been invited to advise the city's investment promotion.
Vice Mayor Yin Zengtao called the move an important step to turn investment promotion into a professional and market-oriented activity.
He disclosed that his city would set up a special investment promotion company and assign "investment promotion ambassadors" ina bid to improve the standards and efficiency of Wuhan's investment promotion work.
The 13 overseas advisors are chosen from Britain, France, the Netherlands, the United States, Japan, the Republic of Korea (ROK),Australia, as well as Hong Kong of China.
The vice mayor explained that this group of overseas advisors are mostly people who hold influence in intermediate organizations in their respective regions or government officials who have influence in their respective business communities.
Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province, is the biggest city in central China and has become an ideal place for investment for overseas investors who want to try their luck in the country's vast west region.
The city government hopes that these overseas advisers will help recommend investors, investment projects, advanced technologies and management expertise, talents, lead their respective regions' businesses to make inspections in Wuhan, help publicize this central China city, in addition to giving advice on Wuhan's construction of investment environment, opening-up and investment promotion.
Overseas advisers will be awarded if the investment projects they recommend succeed and will be given other privileges, including preferential treatment regarding exit, entry and residence in this city, said Yin.
