Beijing is to invest some 10 million yuan (approximately US$ 1.21 million) in the coming three years to establish a quality control system for its computer software industry, according to sources with the Beijing Municipal Commission of Science and Technology.
Beijing' latest move aims to adopt international practice of assessment for local software and software-related enterprises to upgrade them.
Beijing has promulgated relevant measures to popularize CMM (capacity maturity mode) certification on February 2001 and will provide financial support for the practice.
Statistics show that there are now some 1,500 software enterprises in Beijing. Local software output value and software exports account for one third and two thirds of the national total respectively.
