The Taiwan issue is an internal affair of China and no foreign countries have the right to interfere in it, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao reiterated Tuesday while commenting on US military involvement in Taiwan.
Zhu said at a press conference that the Chinese government will continue to observe the policy of "peaceful reunification and one country, two systems" toward the resolving of the Taiwan issue.
The Chinese government and people are confident and capable of safeguarding the national sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as realizing the complete reunification of the motherland, Zhu stressed.
He pointed out that the United States has made a solemn commitment on the Taiwan issue and the current U.S. government has on many occasions reiterated that it adheres to the one-China policy, observes the three Sino-U.S. Joint Communiques and does not support the "independence" of Taiwan.
We hope the U.S. side will honor its commitment and do more deeds beneficial to peace and stability between the two sides of the Taiwan Straits as well as to the healthy advancement of Sino-U. S. relations, the spokesman added.
