The first “longevity festival” is to be hosted at Mount Heng, known as one of China’s five most famous mountains, in central China’s Hunan Province from October 6 to 10.
The five-day event is sponsored by the local government of Hengyang city. Sources with the organizing committee said that various activities including an international acrobatic wirewalking contest, a traditional temple fair and a trade fair will be held during the event.
Some 1,290 meters above the sea level, Mount Heng has long been regarded as a symbol of longevity in China -- a Chinese saying goes like “may your life last as long as the southern Mountain”. The southern mountain refers to Mount Heng.
The Mount Heng area attracts about 2 million tourists every year.
