A female giant panda in the Wolong Giant Panda Protection Center, in southwest China's Sichuan Province, which has a malformed vagina, has given birth to a baby panda for the first time.
The baby panda, fed by its mother panda and weighing 170 grams, is now in good health since its birth on Monday, according to experts at the Wolong center.
Zhang Hemin, a panda expert at the center, said that the mother panda, named Shi Niu, is ten years old and weighs 110 kilograms. The panda was found to have a deformed vagina in 1995, and later had an operation aimed to help restore her sexual function. She had the baby after being pregnant for 120 days.
Earlier, another giant panda, Bai Xue, at the center gave birth to twins last Saturday.
