BBS to Be Regulated

The Ministry of Information Industry issued Monday a regulation on administration of Internet broadcasting bulletin system (BBS), saying that all BBS users should be responsible for their released information.

The regulation stipulates that the violators will be punished according to the regulation.

It says that BBS businessmen should submit applications for running BBS business to the Ministry of Information Industry or the provincial level telecommunications administrative departments.

No one is allowed to release BBS information that is against the Constitutions, endangers state security, reveals state secrets, sabotages unity among ethnic groups and spreads heretical ideas, pornography, violence or other information banned by existing laws or regulations concerned.

If BBS owners discover banned information in their news releases, they are required to delete them immediately.

In a related development, the Information Office of the State Council and the Ministry of Information Industry jointly issued a regulation on administration of news websites.

The regulation lists the terms websites should observe and the penalties that occur when terms are violated.

The Information Office of the State Council will take charge of the administration of news websites.
