According to a national sci-tech work meeting, China will develop its science and technology in the next five years from four aspects: strengthening technological innovation to promote economic structure readjustment, encouraging creation and innovation, speeding up sci-tech system innovation to boost the state innovation system construction, creating favorable environment and underpinning the team construction of high quality technological talents.
While addressing the meeting, Zhu Lilan, minister of science and technology, said that a series of objectives have already been clarified. China will raise the general technology level and international competitive edge to enable the Chinese agriculture, industry and service, especially manufacture and equipment industry to reach the level of developed countries in the mid-1990s, with some ranking among the world top list.
And the innovation ability should be improved to gain more achievements on information industry, biology and new material field.
By 2005, hi-tech industrial added value is expected to account for more than 20% of the total, hi-tech product export more than 20% of the total and patent applications of hi-tech invention increase by 80% over 2000. Furthermore, basic research will list world top 5 to 10.
