Foreign Trade Volume Hits US$300 Billion in Eight Months

China's foreign trade volume hit US$301.7 billion in the first eight months this year, up 36.7 percent on the yearly basis, according to the latest statistics released in Beijing Wednesday.

According to the General Administration of Customs, the export volume between January and August reached US$159.3 billion, a year-on-year rise of 34.6 percent, and the import volume was US$142.4 billion, up 39.2 percent.

China recorded a favorable trade balance of US$16.9 billion during the eight-month period.

In August alone, China's foreign trade volume totaled US$44.1 billion, up 38.9 percent. Export volume of the month hit a new monthly high of US$23.3 billion, an increase of 27.4 percent, and import volume was US$20.8 billion, up 54.6 percent. The favorable trade balance in the month was US$2.5.
