Tsinghua University to Celebrate its 90th Birthday

April 29 is the 90th birthday of Tsinghua University, a comprehensive and state key university in China. To sum up experience of running the school, accumulate enough strength for realizing the superb goal of placing Tsinghua among the well-known universities of the world and encourage our fighting spirits, Professor Wang Dazhong, President of the Tsinghua University, said a large-scale celebration of its 90th anniversary is now underway. Tsinghua University gradually grew up in the time and tide of the 20th century, said he. It is an epitome and a witness of the history of the higher education in China.
Tsinghua University grew out of the Tsinghua School, which was established during the Qing Dynasty in 1911 with part of the retrieved Indemnity for the Boxers' Movement. As one of the important national bases of higher learning and for scientific research and technological development, Tsinghua University has shouldered great responsibility of nurturing high-level talents for the country and promoting the national economic construction.
According to Wang, Tsinghua University has made great achievements in many fields in recent years. Currently, the university has fulfilled the arrangement of comprehensive subjects and specialties. It is now striving for the establishment of a system for researching talents training and trying to put into practice the concept of running the school in an open-door way so as to meet the challenge of the 21st century.
