The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Tung Chee Hwa Tuesday extended to the community the Chinese lunar new year greeting for success and progress.
After a year of hard work, it is time for family reunion and for welcoming the new year, Tung said. He also cited an ancient Chinese poem as saying that “As the rays of the rising sun warm our homes, every family adopts fresh couplets for the new year.”
“As we bid farewell to the year past and as we look forward to the new year, our hearts are filled with hope and expectations,” Tung said.
With the concerted efforts of the community, last year Hong Kong achieved substantial economic growth, surpassing that of many Asian economies, he said. “This reflects the spirit and ability of Hong Kong people in facing up to challenges,” he added.
“As long as we maintain this spirit, Hong Kong will continue to progress, and in particular, after China’s accession to the WTO, business opportunities will abound,” Tung said.
“Looking forward to the new year, the Hong Kong economy is expected to achieve moderate growth, and I believe more members of our community will benefit from this,” he added.
