The Press Office under the Ministry of Health published Monday afternoon a press release on the latest SARS situation on the Chinese mainland. On May 12, 12 provinces reported new SARS cases, of which, 5 provinces reported both new cases and new suspected cases, 3 provinces reported new cases and 4 provinces reported new suspected cases, and the remaining 19 provinces reported no cases.
By 10:00 am May 12, 25 provinces have reported SARS cases. So far, Hainan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Qinghai provinces, Tibet and Xinjiang Uygur autonomous regions have not found any cases. Of the provinces having reported suspected or diagnosed SARS cases, Heilongjiang Province still reports no diagnosed case; Anhui, Gansu, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Hubei, Hunan provinces and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region reported less than 10 diagnosed cases respectively; Zhejiang, Liaoning, Fujian, Chongqing, Jiangxi and Shandong provinces reported less than 5 diagnosed cases respectively. Fujian Province has reported no new case for 34 days; Hunan Province has reported no new case for 21 days; Shandong Province has reported no new case for 18 days; Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has reported no new case for 10 days; Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region has reported no new case for 9 days; Jiangxi Province has reported no new case for 8 days, Hubei Province has reported no new case for 6 days; and Henan and Chongqing have reported no new cases for 5 days respectively.
From 10:00 am May 11 to 10:00 am May 12, China reported 75 new cases, 41 patients recovered and 12 deaths. Of the 75 cases, 62 used to be suspected but now are confirmed as SARS patients.
Of these figures:
Beijing reported 48 new cases (of which 39 used to be suspected but now confirmed as SARS patients), 17 patients recovered and 9 deaths
Tianjin reported 6 new cases (all of which used to be suspected but now confirmed as SARS patients), and 1 death
Hebei reported 11 new cases (all of which used to be suspected but now confirmed as SARS patients), and 8 patients recovered
Shanxi reported 4 new cases (of which 2 used to be suspected but now confirmed as SARS patients), and 8 patients recovered
Inner Mongolia reported 1 new case (which used to be suspected but now confirmed as a SARS patient), 1 patient recovered and 2 deaths
Liaoning reported 1 new case (which used to be suspected but now confirmed as a SARS patient)
Jilin reported 1 new case (which used to be suspected but now confirmed as a SARS patient), and 1 patient recovered
Henan reported 1 patient recovered
Guangdong reported 3 new cases (of which 1 used to be suspected but now confirmed as a SARS patient), and 5 patients recovered.
By 10:00 am May 12, China had a total of 5,013 SARS cases (941 medical workers), which included 1,693 patients who had recovered and been discharged from hospital and 252 deaths. Now 3,068 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals.
From 10:00 am May 11 to 10:00 am May 12, China also reported 95 new suspected cases, including 48 from Beijing, 3 from Tianjin, 6 from Hebei, 10 from Shanxi, 2 from Shanghai, 1 from Jiangsu, 23 from Guangdong, and 1 each from Guangxi and Sichuan.
From 10:00 am May 11 to 10:00 am May 12, China reported 116 misdiagnosed suspected cases, of which, 42 from Beijing, 37 from Guangdong, 18 from Shanxi, 8 from Inner Mongolia, 3 from Hebei, 2 each from Tianjin, Jilin and Jiangsu, and 1 each from Jiangxi and Shaanxi. By 10:00 am May 12, China had a total of 2,476 suspected cases.
