Took Leng How, the accused murderer of eight-year-old Chinese girl student Huang Na, was sentenced to death on Friday, according to Channel NewsAsia report.
Since the case came to trial at the Singapore Supreme Court on July 11, evidence has shown that Took lured the girl at the Pasir Panjang Wholesale Center, sexually assaulted her and then smothered her to death on Oct. 10 last year.
After stamping and kicking Huang to make sure of her death, he tied her body with string, sealed it in nine layers of plastic bags and dumped it down a slope at the Telok Blangah Hill Park in a box, Took confessed.
The highly decomposed body was found on Oct. 31 after a three-week nationwide search for the missing girl, who had been studying in Singapore.
Some 76 witnesses, including the girl's mother, police officers and stallholders at the vegetable wholesale center where Took worked, took the stand during the three-week trial.
Took, 23, is a Malaysian father of a two-year-old boy.
