Int'l Day of Disabled Persons Marked

"My Dream" has been performed by artists from the China Disabled Persons Arts Troupe at the Great Hall of the People in central Beijing these days, as part of a program to mark the 14th International Day of Disabled Persons, which falls on Saturday this year.

"My Dream" is scheduled to continue at the national auditorium from December 1 to 4, said an official with the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF).

A series of celebration or academic activities have been or will be held across the country by local governments and the CDPF branches at different levels, according to official sources.

On Friday, a symposium on information technology for handicapped people was held in Guangzhou, the provincial capital of Guangdong Province in south China.

In related developments, a website, www.cjfj.org, which deals with special tools used by handicapped people, was launched on December 1.

China has more than 60 million people with physical or mental disabilities who account for 5 percent of the nation's total population.
