115 kg of Heroin Seized in HK-Australia Joint Operation

The Hong Kong Police and the Australian Federal Police mounted a joint operation Thursday resulting in the seizure of 115 kilograms of heroin in Australia, a government press release said Friday.

Officers from two jurisdictions had identified two suspect containers that had arrived in Australia in February. They arrived in Adelaide but were later transferred to Sydney. On Thursday, 105 kg of heroin was found concealed in the two containers' roofing.

Further inquires led to the seizure of another 10 kg of heroin. The drugs have a potential Australian street value of more than 60 million Australian dollars.

The Australian Federal Police arrested four men in Thursday's operation, including a 26-year-old Hong Kong citizen.

In Hong Kong, Narcotics Bureau officers also arrested a 29-year-old man in the New Territories early Friday. No drug seizures were made.
