China appreciates Russia's condemnation of Taiwan leader Chen Shui-bian's moves to cease the functions of the "National Unification Council" (NUC) and the application of the "National Unification Guidelines", Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong said on Thursday.
Zeng made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Russian Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev. He said China highly appreciates Russia's constant adherence to the one-China principle and opposition to "Taiwan independence".
Zeng said Chen's actions are grave provocations against the one-China principle widely accepted by the international community, and jeopardizes peace and stability across the Taiwan straits.
"We resolutely oppose 'Taiwan independence' secession forces and their acts," Zeng said. "And we will continue to strive for peaceful reunification."
Nurgaliyev is in Beijing to attend a meeting on law-enforcement with the Chinese Ministry of Public Security.
On Thursday, Nurgaliyev met with Zhou Yongkang, Chinese State Councilor and minister of public security.
China and Russia will further their cooperation in fighting against cross-border crimes, illegal immigration and terrorism as well as enhancing law-enforcement, according to the ministry.
An agreement was signed after the meeting to establish a joint taskforce to crack down on cross-border crimes.
