More Efforts to Protect China's Arable Land

China will adopt stricter measures to protect arable land, stressed Tian Fengshan, minister of land and resources Wednesday at a seminar in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province.

Tian said that China will strengthen the control on the use of land for urban construction and building houses in rural regions. Construction of high-tech development zones across China should go through strict examinations to avoid the careless building witnessed in previous years.

China will stick to the land use system by which if an area of arable land is occupied for construction use, an equal area of land must be brought under cultivation for supplement, said Tian.

The land use situation in Chinese cities, especially in the regions combining the urban and rural areas must be under strict monitoring, said Tian.

China will adopt the measures of land prices and land property management to strictly control land use and push forward the development of the land market, Tian noted.

He added that China will accelerate the updating of land resources information and set up a land management information system.

Land information will be available to the public and will be used for governmental land resource management and economic development.
