Ancient Animal Fossils Discovered in Guangxi

Chinese archeologists have discovered numerous ancient mammal fossils dating back over 100, 000 years in a cave located in an urban area of Pingxiang, a city in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region neighboring Vietnam.

One archeologist noted that the discovery includes Asian elephant, giant panda, macaque, orangutan and deer fossils.

The fossils date to back to the late Quaternary Period, and the cache represents the southernmost primate fossils found in China so far, according to him.

The fossils will provide valuable clues for further scientific studies of the climate and environment in ancient times.
