China is building its largest heavy oil catalyst cracker, which will have an annual capacity of 3.5 million tons, in Dalian City of Liaoning Province.
Construction of the equipment, which started Monday, marks the beginning of a large refinery in this northeastern coastal city, said Ren Chuanjun, deputy general manager of the China Petroleum Group and senior vice-president of the China Petroleum and Gas Co., Ltd.
It is also the No. 1 project for the city to upgrade its aging state-owned enterprises in the new century, he noted.
The project is expected to be completed by October 2002, he added.
