ZTE Corp., China's leading telecom equipment maker, has reached an agreement with OTE, the biggest fixed network and mobile carrier in Greece, to supply its asymmetrical digital subscriber line (ADSL) equipment, the Shenzhen-based company announced Friday.
The equipment, with the total capacity of 100,000 subscriber lines, will help expand OTE's broadband services in Greece and some bordering countries.
This is the third ADSL contract between the two parties. In 2004, ZTE beat out worldwide competition for a major contract with OTE for the Athens Olympic Games. The company deployed an ADSL network covering 16 points in Athens. In May 2005, the Shenzhen-based company received an order from the Greek carrier for the network's expansion.
"The reliability, stability and customized services of ZTE's ADSL equipment have impressed OTE. This has set a solid foundation for future cooperation between the two sides," said a ZTE spokesman Friday.
ZTE has attached great importance to the Greek market, which it sees as a good start for further European expansion. In late 2005, ZTE won a 23-million-euro (US$27.4 million) order from Telepassport, another Greek telecom carrier, to provide IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) equipment to explore a potential multimedia market in the country.
