China Issues New RMB Bank Note, Coin
The People's Bank of China will issue a new five-yuan bank note and a five-jiao (ten jiao equal one yuan) coin from November 18, the central bank announced Friday.

The new bank note and coin are part of the fifth set of bank notes and coins issued by the People's Republic of China.

Other bank notes of the fifth set - in values of 100 yuan, 50 yuan, 20 yuan and 10 yuan - have been in circulation since October1999.

The new five-yuan bank note is purple and carries a picture of Mao Zedong on the front and a pattern of Taishan Mountain on the back.

The five-jiao coin is made of steel with a copper alloy plating.It has the Chinese character of the People's Bank of China, the facial value and the year on the front and a water lily pattern onthe back.
