The Bank of China (BOC) announced Monday it had issued more than 5.17 million Great Wall Credit Cards by the end of October this year, making it the country's largest credit card issuer.
Statistics from the bank show that currently it holds 26 percent of China's credit card market.
BOC first issued its Great Wall International Credit Card in 1998. As of October 31, the bank had issued a total of 207,000 such foreign-currency credit cards, accounting for 59 percent of the country's foreign-currency credit card market.
A spokesman for the bank said it expected the credit card business would generate more profit by the end of this year.
