"I never expect to hand out more than 500 copies of introductive materials at the expo in just two days," said V Saxon, general manager of the Polyinform Environmental Protection Group who is attending the fourth Shanghai industrial exposition.
The expo, to be held annually since 1999, is now the largest industrial expo ever held in China. For the first time, the expo, kicked off this Friday, has drawn over 20 Russian firms to display their products on environmental protection, related instruments and electronics.
A large number of domestic companies have been conducting business talks with Russian firms.
The Beijing Shougang Company Limited, former known as the Beijing Capital Iron and Steel Company, for example, intended to buy a pollution control technology with the use of microorganism developed by the noted Polyinform Environmental Protection Group. They have signed a letter of intent for cooperation.
Leonid Isaev, manager of the Russia OPTEC Co Ltd said, Russian products are welcome and have become increasingly popular in China since they are low priced and in good quality.
Experts predict that the trade volume on environmental protection instruments is projected at 140 billion yuan (US$16.87 billion) during China's tenth five-year period from 2001 to 2005 with an annual growth rate of 13 to 17 percent.
