10% Shanghai Firms to Hire Staff from HK

More than 10 percent of enterprises in Shanghai intend to employ Hong Kong professionals and executives in the next 12 months because of their good command of English, global perspective and management skills. employment

This is the finding of a survey released Tuesday by Hong Kong Professionals and Executives Association (HKPEA) and a Shanghai human resources weekly.

The two institutions interviewed 800 enterprises in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou last month, 250 of which are located in Shanghai.

More than 60 percent of the firms have hired overseas people, most of whom are from Hong Kong. This shows Hong Kong professionals are most favored by mainland employers, the survey said.

Hong Kong people generally take management positions, said Nelson Siu, president of HKPEA.

"Their rich work experiences, good English, and global perspectives have been the crucial factors for them to qualify for senior positions", Siu added. Their monthly salaries range from 3,000 yuan (US$362) to 25,000 yuan (US$2,083).
