GE Technology to Boost Capacity of Power Grid in China

GE Energy officials have announced that the company will supply equipment to boost the capacity of China's southern power grid.

The two 500 kv series compensation systems include redundant digital control technology developed by GE.

The equipment uses capacitors to control impedance, or the total resistance to the current in the system, enabling an increase in the capacity of the transmission lines.

The system is the first in China, although GE Energy has installed more than 100 of them worldwide.

It is needed because of growing energy demands in southeastern China.
