Sentimental, indecisive and easily hurt - that was Chopin as interpreted by Roger Lord, a renowned Canadian pianist and Professor of Montreal University, at his recital this Monday at Beijing Normal University.
The allure of Lord's playing lies in his beautiful tone, rhythmic flexibility, atmospheric use of the pedals, and poetic subtleties of dynamics.
Lord's recital was held to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Canada and China.
Lord played the works of Bach, Ravel, Gibson, Belle and Gershwin.
The piano prince of Canada added four Chinese pieces transcribed for the piano to his repertoire - "The Evening" by He Luting, "Spring Wind and Bamboo Flute" by Sang Tong, "Lingering in the Street" and "Autumn Moon" by Chen Peixun.
This is Roger Lord's second visit to Beijing.
Lord pays special attention to art education. He visited Beijing in 1999 and was deeply impressed.
