Crackdown on Corruption to Continue

China's leading disciplinary official said the government crackdown on violations of law and discipline must continue, and officials will be held accountable for corruption in areas within their jurisdiction.

Wu Guanzheng, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and secretary of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, made the remarks during his inspection tour of northwest China's Gansu province from July 24 to 28.

Wu said that targets of the crackdown include abusing official power for personal gains, taking bribes, perverting justice and serious violations of the interests of the people.

Regional and departmental leaders will be held accountable for chronic and recurring corruption in areas under their administrations, he noted.

Wu also urged CPC committees and discipline inspection organs to carry out existing regulations concerning Party-building. He asked that leading officials report their work, their compliance with Party discipline and major personal affairs, and that they issue warnings to other officials about "unhealthy tendencies" and solicit public opinion about certain officials.

Wu made his Gansu tour mainly to inspect the developments of the style of Party work.
