Beijing police have closed down two of eight blacklisted entertainment venues charged with drug-related activities, Beijing Times reported Friday.
An anti-drug police officer said that the three venues have been ordered to suspend operation. Two have been order to correct the situation and the other is still under investigation.
The officer did not give the details about the drug-related activities.
The crackdown is part of a campaign launched by the police that began in May to contain drug-related crimes. Since July, The officer said police have secretly investigated at least 500 entertainment venues.
Seventeen of the venues were found to have involved in drug-related activities, and 165 suspects were detained.
By September 10 of this year, police in Beijing have uncovered 1,056 drug-related cases and arrested 403 suspects charged with drug-related crimes. (Xinhua News Agency September 18, 2004)
