'Miracle': Leukemia Mother, Hepatitis-B Father Give Birth to Healthy Baby

The 26 year-old woman has suffered from leukemia for 11 years. Her husband has been tested positive for hepatitis-B. Last year, they made a brave and risky decision: to have a baby of their own.

The baby weighed 3.5 kilograms, when he came to the world in September through a cesarean delivery. After a check on her umbilical blood, the baby was proved to be completely healthy.

"What a miracle!" said Li Songwen, the doctor whose army hospital has treated the leukemia patients from the very beginning.

Li praised the treatment the woman received, which he said kept her stable and optimistic.

According to the doctor, it is rare for Leukemia patients, who live with chemical treatments if they cannot get bone marrow transplants, to stay alive for 10 years. And it is very rare for them to give birth.

The pair married at the beginning of last year. When they decided to have a baby, no experts dared to give a forecast on the future birth. But the couple decided to bear the risk while they receive treatment and regular check in the hospital.
