A residential building fire claimed two children' lives and injured four others on Tuesday in Haikou, capital city of south China's Hainan Province, local police said.

The fire burst out at 7:30 PM Tuesday in a five-storied building located in Meilan District killing two children and leaving four others injured. All the injured had been hospitalized, noted the sources.

Local authorities and firemen rushed to the spot upon the report and extinguished the fire at 8:40 PM.

Investigation into the cause is underway.
