A unique polling on "Best Public Toilets" was organized by Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) and Hong Kong Toilet Association (HKTA) with the support of People's Health Actions.
Repulse Bay beach public toilet and Lantau Link Viewing Platform public toilet won top prizes while Yee Kuk Street toilet was adjudged the best public toilet for the disabled.
Described as having "no sand on the floor", Repulse Bay beach public toilet won 204 votes from a total 2,325 and won the "Gold prize of the Most Acclaimed Public Toilet", Chairman of People's Health Actions Lo Wing lok hailed the performance of the cleaners especially because the toilet had been used by large number of tourists and swimmers.
Ngong Ping road public toilet and Fong Ma Po public toilet won second and third position. They won prizes for environmental design and great hygiene.
"Gold prize of Adjudicator's Choice" was won by Lantau Link Viewing platform public toilet. Special mention was made about its large space with 3-language reminder for the users. The adjudicators also admired its waiting area with comfortable seating and described it as a "five-star" public toilet.
Several public toilets were labelled "requiring urgent improvement" that lacked the basic requirement of "CASH". Chairman of Hong Kong Toilet Association, Michael Siu kin-wai, said that the assessment criteria "CASH" was composed by comfort, accessibility, safety and hygiene.
