Sixty students at a middle school in north China were hospitalized after a suspected flu outbreak, local sources said on Thursday.
The students, from six classes of Chengguan Middle School in Wenxi County, Shanxi Province, were suffering from fever, headaches, vomiting and coughing when admitted to hospital, said Feng Zhi, deputy director of the Shanxi Provincial Disease Prevention and Control Center.
"Some had a fever higher than 39 degrees Celsius," said Feng, adding that all were in a stable condition.
The students became ill on Wednesday, said a Wenxi county government source. The control center suspected it was flu after conducting tests.
