One thousand senior citizens from across China braved strong winds in Beijing on Saturday to participate in an event that aimed to create a Guinness world record.

The seniors assembled tens of thousands of red heart-shaped cards containing with heartfelt stories written by families throughout the country to form a single giant heart spanning 1,000 square meters.

Another group of seniors in the southern city of Guangzhou simultaneously created their own giant heart.

The event's organizer has filed an application with the Guinness China headquarters.
